CHRISTIAN

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not shouting "I'm clean livin."
I'm whispering "I was lost,"
Now I'm found and forgiven.

When I say..."I am a Christian"
I don't speak of this with pride.
I'm confessing that I stumble
and need CHRIST to be my guide.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not trying to be strong.
I'm professing that I'm weak
and need HIS strength to carry on.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I have failed
and need God to clean my mess.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not claiming to be perfect,
My flaws are far too visible
but, God believes I am worth it.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I still feel the sting of pain,
I have my share of heartaches
So I call upon His name.

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not holier than thou,
I'm just a simple sinner
who received God's good grace, somehow.
And his mercy.

A SPECIAL LETTER

DEAR CHILD,

I just wanted to remind you today of how beautiful you are because there
is a father of lies who will try to deceive you. He will try to tell you
that you are not good enough, not attractive enough, not thin enough,
not strong enough, not smart enough, not righteous enough, and that you
are simply unimportant to Me.

He will try to tell you that you have broken one too many promises, that
you have fallen one too many times, that you have lived one too many
lies, and that you've been going in the wrong direction so long that it
is pointless to turn back now.

But guess what?

YOU DO NOT BELONG TO HIM. HE IS NOT YOUR FATHER.

I AM.

You see, you are My creation. My workmanship. You have been borne of My
thought, every part of you placed together by My hands. You have My
thumbprint upon you. You are a prince/princess, did you know that? You
are My child, the child of THE King!

I look at you and see a precious, priceless pearl. There is no ocean I
would not swim, no mountain I would not climb, no price I would not pay
to have you and to be with you and call you My own.
I already have.

I have done all that I could, given all that there is. I desire to be
with you every moment of every day. How I long for you to talk to Me
every day. My love for you never grows cold. My promises are never
broken (contrary to what he might lead you to believe). My character
never changes. And you, my child have been made in My image.

I love you dearly, unconditionally and completely. I understand every
emotion that you have. I've been there. I count every tear that you cry.
I know every hair on your head.

And do you know what?

I even know your weaknesses and your failures and your fears. I know
those hidden parts of you that you wish would go away. Those dark
corners of your world that you stuff deep down, praying that no one will
ever see. I have already seen them and they will not change my love for you.

Nothing will.

I love your heart and I desire all of it.

I just wanted to remind you today of how beautiful you are and how
precious you are to Me.

With Unmeasurable Love,
Your Heavenly Father

NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH

Brothers and Sister, Did you know that Buddha never claimed to be God and Moses never claimed to be Jehovah. It's a fact that Mohammed never claimed to be Allah,
Yet Jesus Christ claimed to be the true and living God.

It’s also a fact that Buddha simply said, "I am a teacher in search of the truth."
Jesus said, "I am the Truth."

Confucius said, "I never claimed to be holy."
Jesus said, "Who convicts me of sin?"

Mohammed said, "Unless God throws his cloak of mercy over me, I have no hope."
Jesus said, "Unless you believe in me, you will die in your sins."

No blind leap of faith is needed to believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. His tomb is the only empty one. Buddha, Mohammed, Confucius and all other founders of religions are still in their tombs. You can visit them. Jesus is not in His and there is a good reason.

He rose from the dead.

1 Timothy 3:15 but in case I am delayed, I write so that you may know how one ought conduct himself in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and support of the truth.

Immediately after saying “but in case I am delayed”, Paul pauses in to make a few very interesting declarations.

First, he discusses the Truth ABOUT the church…

a) The church is the church of the living God.

That means that those who worship the teachings of Buddha, Confucius, Muhammad and others are NOT part of “the church” because their “god” is DEAD!

Then he reminds us, in other words, what Christians say should be the truth, and reliable and trustworthy, and nothing but the truth.

b) The church is to be the Pillar and Support of the truth.

Brothers and Sisters… We should preach and teach nothing but the TRUTH.

THE INTERVIEW WITH GOD

I dreamed I had an interview with God.

“So you would like to interview me?” God asked.

“If you have the time” I said.

God smiled. “My time is eternity.”
“What questions do you have in mind for me?”

“What surprises you most about humankind?”

God answered...
“That they get bored with childhood,
they rush to grow up, and then
long to be children again.”

“That they lose their health to make money...
and then lose their money to restore their health.”

“That by thinking anxiously about the future,
they forget the present,
such that they live in neither
the present nor the future.”

"That they live as if they will never die,
and die as though they had never lived.”

God’s hand took mine
and we were silent for a while.

And then I asked...
“As a parent, what are some of life’s lessons
you want your children to learn?”

“To learn they cannot make anyone
love them. All they can do
is let themselves be loved.”

“To learn that it is not good
to compare themselves to others.”

“To learn to forgive
by practicing forgiveness.”

“To learn that it only takes a few seconds
to open profound wounds in those they love,
and it can take many years to heal them.”

“To learn that a rich person
is not one who has the most,
but is one who needs the least.”

“To learn that there are people
who love them dearly,
but simply have not yet learned
how to express or show their feelings.”

“To learn that two people can
look at the same thing
and see it differently.”

“To learn that it is not enough that they
forgive one another, but they must also forgive themselves.”

"Thank you for your time," I said humbly.

"Is there anything else
you would like your children to know?"

God smiled and said,
“Just know that I am here... always.”

I HAVE LEARNED II

I've learned that you can do something in an instant that will give you heartache for life.

I've learned that it's taking me a long time to become the person I want to be.

I've learned that you should always leave loved ones with loving words.

It may be the last time you see them.

I've learned that you can keep going long after you can't.

I've learned that we are responsible for what we do, no matter how we feel.

I've learned that either you control your attitude or it controls you.

I've learned that regardless of how hot and steamy a relationship is at first, the passion fades
and there had better be something else to take its place.

I've learned that heroes are the people who do what has to be done when it needs to be done, regardless of the consequences.

I've learned that money is a lousy way of keeping score.

I've learned that my best friend and I can do anything or nothing and have the best time.

I've learned that sometimes the people you expect to kick you when you're down will be the ones to help you get back up.

I've learned that sometimes when I'm angry I have the right to be angry, but that doesn't give me the right to be cruel.

I've learned that true friendship continues to grow, even over the longest distance.
Same goes for true love.

I've learned that just because someone doesn't love you the way you want them to doesn't mean they don't love you with all they have.

I've learned that maturity has more to do with what types of experiences you've had and what you've learned from them and less to do with how many birthdays you've celebrated.

Forgiveness

I asked God “Is there truly a little boy in us as men?” and to my surprise the answer came with an unanticipated message on forgiveness. It comes from First Corinthians chapter fourteen and verse twenty, which reads, "Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men.”

Brothers, we are God's children, so we should always be humble before God as His dear children. We should be forgiving as children forgive, as well. Children can brawl one minute, and in the next five minutes be in concert again. They are quick to forgive and forget. In that, we should be just like them. We should not be children in the decisions we formulate, however. We should be mature Christians in understanding. We should grow in the Lord each day, so that we will be wise in the decisions that we make. Our understanding of the things of God must be influenced by the instruction of the Holy Spirit.

Forgiveness is the most Christ-like act a Christian can do. Never are you more like Christ than when you forgive because that is what Christ does. Forgiveness is a magnificent virtue.

Yours because of Calvary,

In service of the King,

Elder J. Andres Vazquez

I HAVE LEARNED....

The following quote contains "principles for Christian living" that are taken mostly from the 'wisdom' literature of the bible- Proverbs and Ecclesiastes. It is impossible for one to live right, or to have wholesome relationships, without following Scriptural principles.

I'VE LEARNED that you cannot make someone love you. All you can do is be someone who can be loved... The rest is up to them.

I'VE LEARNED that no matter how much I care, some people just don't care back.

I'VE LEARNED that no matter how good a friend is, they're going to hurt you every once in a while and you must forgive them for that.

I'VE LEARNED that just because someone doesn't love you the way you want to, doesn't mean they don't love you with all they have.

I'VE LEARNED that there are people who love you dearly, but just don't know how to show it.

I'VE LEARNED that true friendship continues to grow, even over the longest distance.

I'VE LEARNED that maturity has more to do with what types of experiences you've had, and what you've learned from them and less to do with how many birthdays you've celebrated.

I'VE LEARNED that no matter how bad your heart is broken the world doesn't stop for your grief.

I'VE LEARNED that our background and circumstances may have influenced who we are, but we are responsible for who we become.

I'VE LEARNED that just because two people argue, it doesn't mean they don't love each other. And just because they don't argue, it doesn't mean they do.

I'VE LEARNED that two people can look at the exact same thing and see something totally different.

I'VE LEARNED that no matter the consequences, those who are honest with themselves get farther in life.

I'VE LEARNED that even when you think you have no more to give, when a friend cries out to you, you will find the strength to help.

I'VE LEARNED that credentials on the wall do not make you a decent human being.

I'VE LEARNED that it's hard to determine where to draw the line between being nice and not hurting people's feelings, and standing up for what you believe.

I'VE LEARNED that it takes years to build up trust, and only seconds to destroy it.

I'VE LEARNED that sometimes when I'm angry I have the right to be angry, but that doesn't give me the right to be cruel.

I'VE LEARNED that either you control your attitude, or it controls you.

I'VE LEARNED that it's not WHAT you have in your life but WHO you have in your life that counts.

I'VE LEARNED that you can get by on charm for about fifteen minutes. After that, you had better know something.

I'VE LEARNED that it's taking me a long time to become the person I want to be.

I'VE LEARNED that you can keep going long after you think you can't.

I'VE LEARNED that learning to forgive takes practice.

What is Prayer X (Effectiveness)

Prayer has power over everything. God can intelligently act in any part of the universe or human history. Although some people think prayer is a waste of time, the Bible declares that "the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much" (James 5:16). Prayer meets inner needs.

One who prays will receive:
Freedom from fear (Psalm 118:5-6),
Strength of soul (Psalm 138:3),
Guidance and satisfaction (Isaiah 58:9-11),
Wisdom and understanding (Daniel 9:20-27),
Deliverance from harm (Joel 2:32),
Reward (Matthew 6:6),
Good gifts (Luke 11:13),
Fullness of joy (John 16:23-24),
Peace (Philippians 4:6-8), and
Freedom from anxiety (1 Peter 5:7).

One may ask “Is prayer effective only in the inner lives of those who pray?” and the answer is...

“No”, prayer can make a difference in the lives of others.

Biblical writers believed prayer for others could result in greater wisdom and power (Ephesians 1:18-19);

Inward strength, knowledge of Christ's love, filling with God's fullness (Ephesians 3:16-19);

Discernment, approval of what is excellent, filling with fruits of righteousness (Philippians 1:9-11);

Knowledge of God's will, spiritual understanding, a life pleasing to God, fruitfulness, endurance, patience, joy (Colossians 1:9-12);

A quiet, peaceable life (1 Timothy 2:1-2);

Love for one another and all people, holiness before God (1 Thessalonians 3:10-13);

Comfort and establishment in every good word and work (2 Thessalonians 2:16-17);

Love for God, steadfastness in Christ (2 Thessalonians 3:5);

The sharing of one's faith, promotion of the knowledge of all that is good (Philemon 6); and

Equipment for every good work that is pleasing to God (Hebrews 13:20-21).

Some people who think prayer can affect others question the ability of God to change His usual patterns in the physical world. But some prayers in the Bible changed nature and physical bodies.

Jabez prayed for enlarged borders and protection from harm (1 Chronicles 4:10).

Other people in the Bible prayed for deliverance from trouble Psalm 34:15-22),

Deliverance from both poverty and riches (Proverbs 30:7-9),

Deliverance from the belly of a great fish (Jonah 2:7-10),

Daily bread (Matthew 6:11),

Preservation and sanctification of spirit, soul, and body (1 Thessalonians 5:23),

The healing of the sick (James 5:14-15), and

The ending of the rain and it's beginning again (James 5:17-18).

When the disciples prayed, the building around them shook (Acts 4:31) and an earthquake opened the doors of their prison (Acts 16:25-26).

Brothers and Sisters, our prayers do make a difference in how God acts in the world.

About Me

My photo
I'm just, a nobody, trying to tell everybody, about Somebody who can save anybody. First I want to give love to the Father for giving me the opportunity to be an instrument for him to live in and live through for the glory that belongs to only him and Him alone. I served in the United States Navy for twenty one years and retired September 2003. During the last 3 years of my naval career, I served as co-pastor of Greater New Refuge COGIC in Fallon, Nevada under the tutelage of Pastor Gregory L. Brown. While there, I diligently served my pastor and church with the construction of a new sanctuary, and caring for the needs of all ministries, while simultaneously striving to stay focused on the mandate that the Lord had placed upon my life to preach the Word of God without compromise. I was licensed to preach November 2002 and Ordained June 2003. While stationed in Virginia Beach, Virginia, I proudly served and as constituent of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church for seventeen years under the leadership of Bishop Elect W. D. Scott, Sr. and presently serve under the leadership of Bishop B. Courtney McBath at Calvary Revival Church in Norfolk, Virginia.

MY THEOLOGICAL TRAINING:

It brings to my face a unadulterated smile each and every occasion I am asked, “Elder Dre, What Theological Training do you have?”

My heart beams with joy at the opportunity to humbly give full glory to God as I reflect on on how the prophets, patriarchs and apostles of old would have respond: Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joshua, Gideon, King David, Elijah, Elisha, Jeremiah, John the Baptist, Matthew, Mark, Peter, James, John and the other disciples, not forgetting the Saviour Himself.

How would they have answered the question: “What theological training do you have?”

The words of the prophet Amos also came to mind: “Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet’s son; but I was an herdman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit:” Amos 7:14

I surely am not impliedly decrying theological preparation, education or training: I consider it essential, but not as much as some think. For the fact is, the Almighty raises up believers according to His own standards.

Educational qualifications, wealth, fame, talent, social standing, outward appearance etc. are useful; but they are secondary in His sight. Qualities like faith, obedience, holiness, humility, honesty, absolute loyalty to one’s spouse, the ability to raise one’s family to fear God and keep His commandments etc.; these are the things the Most High values.

“Man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.”

Only on the Day of Judgment will it be known how truly educated, weighty and effective I have been. That is why I have to smile when the question arise.

The vanity of the question is only matched by the foolishness of my answer.

As the wise man wrote: “Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher; all is vanity.” Ecclesiastes 1: 2 or as the apostle Paul commented in 2 Corinthians 11:16-30 when rattling off a long list of impressive qualifications “... I speak as a fool.”

Furthermore, we have seen with our own eyes and now testify that the Father sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. All who proclaim that Jesus is the Son of God have God living in them, and they live in God. 1 John 4:14-15 (NLT)

I am a preacher, but most of all, I proclaim that Jesus is the Savior with various applications of that truth in my everyday life. My dear friend, if you are a Christian, you are a preacher also. Whether you have been ordained or not, hired by a church or not, or ever been recognized as a preacher or not is beside the point. All who have God living in them are called to proclaim the Savior to the world. It is a Holy calling, and a demanding one. It will pull you out of your comfort zone, challenge your commitment, and help to develop you into the person God has created you to be.

John spoke as an eyewitness to Jesus' saving power. We speak as heart-witnesses; ones who have not seen Jesus with our eyes, but have experienced Him through personal transformation. I speak, and you speak, as a representative of Christ on earth. The message that we bring is simple, yet profound; that God the Father sent God the Son into the world to save those who are lost to bring them into relationship with Him. As you tell the story, and I tell the story, some will listen and receive the grace that God has sent us into the world to proclaim.

PRAYER THOUGHT: Father, what a privilege to be a spokesperson for You.

Thank you for stopping by. Stay encouraged and please do come back.
