You keep deep inside
The hopes and the dreams
You think you must hide.
You strive to be best
Make the top of the heap
Because you are women
The climb is so steep.
The ceiling of glass
A must to be broken
It only exists
Because you are women.
From morning to night
Multi-tasks you perform
Because you are women
It’s often ‘til morn
Because you are women
To nurture is norm
But when it’s your turn
You are left in the storm.
So wet are the tears
You shed late in the night
Because you are women
You don’t share your plight.
With anxiety high
Self esteem at a low
Because you are women
You don’t let it show.
Because you are women
There is power within
To believe in yourselves
You always will win.
United you stand
With strength and with force
Because you are women
Together on course.
The lesson you learn
Is the matter of trust
Because you are women
In each other a must.
Because you are women
You open your hearts
To the caring and love
That today you have sparked
Possibility abounds
Opportunity awaits
Because you are women
It’s all yours to take.
First and formost, I give honor to God. Now, I thank you my dear friend M.J. Waldock, for inspiring me to personalize this poem to the four women in my life, (Vicenta, Leticia, Alicia and Olga) who raised me from my youth to adulthood to become what the world has proven throughout history as rare. A man with great sensitivity, honor, love and respect for all women. All too frequently today, people are starved for a little praise. Whether we are willing to acknowledge it to others, or even admit it to ourselves, we all need a little praise in our life. Marlene, thank you for your poem entitled, "BECAUSE WE ARE WOMEN". All credit for my version belongs to you.
